Open Scan: Join us this June to learn to Think Like a Futurist
Join municipal innovators from across Canada every Wednesday in June to learn the basics of strategic foresight by exploring the futures of cities.
For the month of June, Open Scan is taking a bit of a different approach and offering a free introductory strategic foresight program. Think Like a Futurist is a virtual four-part futures training series for municipal innovators. Held weekly on Zoom, this program will provide you with the basics of strategic foresight and an opportunity to develop future thinking skills through a highly participatory applied learning environment.
Why attend? A recent study of 140 global CEOs found that thinking like a futurist is one of the most important leadership skills for 2030. As cities continue to face increasingly complex, uncertain and volatile environments, the ability to make decisions based on the future is critical.
Join us every Wednesday at 11:30 am ET to learn how to plan and prepare like a futurist.
Please note: To foster greater collaboration between participants and facilitators, only 10 spots are being made available. By signing up, you are claiming one of these spots, and committing to attend all four sessions.
Who can attend?
Think Like a Futurist is for people with limited to no prior experience with strategic foresight who work for a municipality (or other levels of government directly related to cities) or a non-profit organization engaged in city-building programs.'
Wait, it’s free?
Yes, it’s free. But, if you register, we ask that you commit to attending all four sessions.
We know there is a tendency when things are free to register and maybe not attend. We get it. Sometimes things pop up, but given how few spaces are being offered, we ask that only those who are very committed, sign up.
What will each week focus on?
June 5: Introduction to strategic foresight (2 hours)
June 12: Developing futures trends & scenarios (2 hours)
June 19: How to use scenarios to inform future-focused decisions (2 hours)
June 26: Implementing successful foresight projects (90 mins)
Please note: Approximately 30 mins of homework will be assigned Week 1 - 3
